I am a freelance film director/producer/animator, but my heart is in directing. I have directed several documentaries, series, commercials, shorts and corporates. These have been animated, live-action, 2D, 3D, stop-motion, VFX, composited, and some weird and wonderful things in between. My main strength is character animation and I love stop-motion. I’ve animated on high profile Oscar/award winning features (Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit, Corpse Bride, Max n’ Co), series and countless commercials. I have a broad range of further filmmaking skills and experience, particularly in scriptwriting, storyboarding, character design, construction, shooting, editing, post-production, drawing and photography.

In 2007 I started a film production company in Nairobi, Kenya, called Kinematica Productions. I still run it and am the company’s main director/producer. We specialise in animation, commercials, documentaries, shorts, visual effects and motion graphics. We have developed new visual aesthetics by combining stop-motion animation with new digital techniques, and this is what excites me. Kinematica has a fully kitted studio and networks to deliver film and media production in East Africa.

I do regular freelance camerawork, comfortably operating all sorts of cameras. I have extensive editing skills and a good understanding of Maya and After-Effects.

I travel a lot on film jobs and speak fluent English, Italian, Kiswahili, and good French and Spanish.

I co-run a stills photography business called The Look. Its website is:www.thelookafrica.com. I both shoot and post-produce.

I grew up in Kenya where I developed a strong interest in cultural diversity. Much of the work I do is conscience led. I particularly like to tackle social and environmental issues as part of a broader philosophy of ecology.
